Large or Small Tubs of Red Root Floaters
Red Root Floater is a floating aquarium plant from South America. It displays beautiful red roots and leaves in shades of green, pink and red. It is great for providing shade and fish fry love to hide in the attractive roots. Root Root Floaters are a free-floating aquatic plant that propagates by runners.
Floaters help to absorb waste nutrients in the aquarium, including ammonia and nitrogenous compounds. The root system nurtures beneficial microorganisms. Redder leaves can be encouraged by abundant light with low nitrate and fertiliser levels. High light levels improve propagation.
If the water surface is completely covered by floating plants, surface gas exchange can be inhibited, reducing the oxygen levels in the tank. Excess plants can be discarded - composted or binned, but should not be released in waterways.
Excessive surface turbulence may inhibit growth. Leaves that are constantly sprayed with water may rot.
Scientific Name: Phyllanthus fluitans (syn. diasperus fluitans)
Also Called: Floating Spurge, Apple Duckweed
pH range: 6.0-7.5
Temperature: 20-28ºC
Red root floaters may harbour snails and duckweed on occasion.
