It was my first time buying plants online; the site was easy to navigate, delivery was quick, and the plants arrived well packaged, in good condition, reasonably priced, and without the nasty snails you get in a lot of shop-bought plants. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for plants.

Very helpful in choosing the right aquarium plant for me, the service was amazing and I highly recommend Scapeshop, the Anubias at $38 each were extremely large with a long root system and arrived over night, similar ones would be over $100 and they made the Tank look fantastic. Thank you.

I found this website to be wonderful with their aquatic plants. Their photo's do justice to the plants and look just as healthy upon receipt. I have found this to be very rare with other website when previously purchasing aquatic plants. I will definitely be shopping from here again. Thanks so much!!

Nice big healthy plants with roots. The stems were a bent on one driftwood creation but they stand upright in the water no problem.

Frequently Asked Question

What are sword plants in an aquarium?

Sword plants (Echinodorus) are large, rooted aquarium plants with broad, sword-shaped leaves. Sword plants are popular as centrepiece and background plants in freshwater aquariums. Common varieties include Amazon Sword, Red Flame Sword, Ozelot Sword and Rubin Sword — all grown for their lush green or reddish leaves.

Are sword plants easy to grow?

Yes, sword plants are easy to grow and beginner-friendly. They tolerate a wide range of water parameters and grow well in medium light. Sword plants are heavy root feeders, so plant them in nutrient-rich substrate and use root tabs near the roots for the best growth and leaf colour.

How big do sword plants get?

Most sword plants grow 30–50 cm tall, with large varieties like Amazon Sword reaching 50–60 cm in tall aquariums. Compact sword plants like Ozelot Sword stay around 20–30 cm. Always check your tank height — sword plants are best suited to aquariums 45 cm deep or taller.

How do you plant sword plants in an aquarium?

Plant sword plants by burying the roots fully in substrate while keeping the crown (where leaves meet roots) above the substrate. Use root tabs near the base. Sword plants prefer 5–8 cm of nutrient-rich substrate and need space — plant a single sword plant per 30–40 cm of tank width.

Do sword plants need CO2?

Sword plants do not require CO2 to survive, but they grow much faster and produce larger, brighter leaves with CO2 injection. In low-tech setups, sword plants still grow steadily with good lighting and root tabs. Red sword plants like Red Flame Sword colour best with strong light and CO2.

What is the best sword plant for a community tank?

The Amazon Sword is the best sword plant for a community aquarium. It is hardy, tolerates a wide pH and temperature range, and grows into a stunning centrepiece. Other great sword plants for community tanks include Red Melon Sword, Kleiner Bar Sword and Ozelot Sword for added colour.

Why are my sword plant leaves turning yellow or melting?

Sword plant leaves turn yellow or melt because of nutrient deficiency (especially iron and potassium), poor substrate or low light. Place root tabs near the sword plant base, dose a complete liquid fertiliser and ensure 8–10 hours of medium-strong lighting. Trim damaged leaves to redirect energy to new growth.
