Echinodorus Species
The Echinodorus family of plants are commonly called "Sword Plants." There are a diverse range of Echinodorus species and cultivars with many different leaf shapes and leaf colouration.
In the wild, in South America, Sword plants live in marshes and bogs that flood in the wet season. They have part of their life cycle during the drier weather where they grow out of water and reproduce. This natural emerse stage of their life is how most Echinodorus are grown commercially. The emerse plants are stronger and when the floods come to them in the wild or they are submersed in an aquarium, they happily adjust to their submerse form. With time, they will grow new underwater leaves, that are often softer and more colourful and the leaves may have a slightly different shape.
Sword plants are very versatile and can be grown in most aquariums, with most fish except large cichlids. These highly sought after plants come in a variety of sizes and leaf shapes with colours from vibrant, light, frog green through deep, dark green then across to reds or coppers and even a variegated "Marble Queen."

The plants I’ve ordered from ScapeShop are by far the best plants I’ve ever bought! The communication was clear, the deliver was quick and the plants are perfection. Thank you!! I’ll be sure to order again soon!
Thd Vesuvius is definitely a favorite in my tank, will be purchasing another because it looks so good, the texture and interest they give is awesome.
This one was super gorgeous and lush from the scapeshop.... it came short, broad and curly leaves, but my suspicion is this is how it would grow in a shallower tank (absolutely gorgeous), but it grew differently for me.. a 50cm deep tank, with very strong lighting, see below.
My plants shot out long thin leaves to the surface, and aggressive runners, which I would move to wherever I wanted, but you can cut them too to stop new plants from growing.. it could easily create a carpet of sorts if you wanted it too.. but the leaves are long, like to the surface and keep going.. so they probably need chopping, it reminds me exactly of what Vallisneria is supposed to grow like, a very interesting plant!
Beautiful plants, very happy with purchase.
Great quality plants all arrived in excellent healthy condition
I lover this plants twisty leaves. I put it into my CO2 tank and within a few weeks it had runners coming off it. Now it has 12 new plants.
I love this plant. My first one I planted in a CO2 tank and a few weeks later it started getting runner. A month later and it now has 7 plants off runners.
